Church of the Resurrection on Debra description and photos - Russia - Golden Ring: Kostroma. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionThe Church of the Resurrection on Debra is a posad church built in 1652 at the expense of the merchant K.G. Isakov, who traded paint with England, and the townspeople. The name `` on Debra '' says, probably, that there was a dense forest here in ancient times. This is the only surviving temple of all posad churches in Kostroma. Until 1964 grain and vegetables were stored in it. The church building is erected on the basement and surrounded on three sides by covered galleries. On three sides, the church is decorated with porches with tents and domes. At the entrance gates of the church you can see the English royal symbols - a lion, a unicorn, interspersed with Russian characters - the bird Sirin, etc. The special pride of the temple is its northeastern, so-called three-saints side-chapel. On its vaults and walls, scenes from the life of Vasily Velichko, Gregory the Theologian and John Chrysostom are depicted. It is believed that these frescoes were made by Guriy Nikitin and other artists. The carved iconostasis of the chapel is beautiful, the finest ornament of which is painted and gilded.
