After a severe fire that occurred in 1105, the church was rebuilt with alms from the faithful. In 1350, the church was solemnly consecrated by the bishops Agnellino Sudense and Francesco Mociense. In 1776, large-scale reconstruction works were carried out in the church, led by the architect Lorenzo Bochetti. In 1810, the parish of the church lost its independence. Nowadays, the building of the church houses the Leonardo da Vinci Museum of Machines.
