The Chapel of St. Vavrince was built in the form of a rotunda on the Снnieka mountain, near the city of Karlovy Vary. At the end of construction work, the chapel reached a height of 14 meters.

In 1771, the chapel was badly damaged by lightning. Subsequently, it functioned as an inn with a shelter. In 1854, the chapel was restored and consecrated.

Nowadays, services in the chapel of St. Vavrince are held only five times a year. At this time, Snezhka becomes a place of pilgrimage, where crowds of people come. Fairs are also held at the top.

Mount Snezka is the highest point in the Czech Republic – its height reaches about 1602 meters. Nieka is an excellent observation point, from where, in clear weather, you can observe the Czech Republic and Poland, and in exceptional weather you can even see the Prague Petrin Tower.

The first trip to nieka was made in 1456 by an unknown Venetian a merchant who went there to find precious stones. Almost a century later, Krishtof Schilling decided to conquer the summit – a great humanist from Slask, who measured an unreal 5880 meters during the hike.

Initially, the mountain was called Schnikoppe, which in German means the Middle Peak. The very first Czech name of the mountain – The hillock is snowy, then Snezhovka, and since 1823 she was called Snezhka.
