This largest center of Buddhism in Asia is located at Mount Nan west of the city of Sanya. Its area – 50 square kilometers. It was opened in 1997, when an old temple was restored here and a huge park was laid out.
The temple itself stands on a man-made island, which is connected to the coast by a thin isthmus. Above the temple there is a statue of a Buddhist Goddess, the largest in the world.
In the park, in a special pavilion, one more relic of the temple is kept – tallest golden statue of Ganyin. Its weight is 140 kilograms. The statue is decorated with stones and stands on a white jade plinth in the shape of a lotus. This statue – one of the greatest Buddhist shrines – it houses the temple of the founder of Buddhism, Buddha Shakya Muni. This ashes are more than 2 years old, 5 thousand years. The statue is also included in the Guinness Book of Records.
The park also houses a deer nursery, a vegetarian restaurant and an observation deck with a good view of the South China Sea.
