The title in English is Ulica Piwna. Photo and descriptionBeer Street starts from Veельka Zbroevnia, or the Great Arsenal. This huge Renaissance structure, whose facade is decorated with figured pediments interspersed with figures of guards, was once used to store gunpowder and weapons. It was built in 1600-1609 with the help of a whole team of architects and designers. For example, Wilhelm van der Mer and Abraham van der Block worked on the decoration of an already finished building. Now the upper floors of the Great Arsenal belong to the Academy of Fine Arts, and the first floor is occupied by shops. Through the passage you can go to one of the most interesting streets of Gdansk - Pivnaya Street. It got its name after the popular intoxicating drink. Breweries on this street have been located since its foundation. When Gdansk was called Danzig, this street was called Jopengasse, where Jopean beer was first brewed - a famous drink from Gdansk. Only in 1945 did the street become Pivnaya. At the corner of Pivnaya and Tkatskaya streets, there is a magnificent baroque mansion called the House of Zhemesla (Crafts). It was built in 1640 by the architect Andrzej Schluter the Elder. This stone building is considered one of the most beautiful buildings in Gdansk. Mostly merchants and burghers lived on Pivnaya Street, but some people of creative professions also bought houses here. The most famous inhabitant of Pivnaya Street is the architect Jan Strakovsky, who lived here at the turn of the XVI-XVII centuries. Johann Karl Schulz, an artist, illustrator, restorer and teacher at the local Academy of Arts, lived in mansion # 25. House No. 51 for a long time belonged to the family of the famous doctor Schmidt. Anne Pielemann, the mistress of Maurice Ferber, also lived on Beer Street. Because of this lady, a huge scandal broke out, about which the whole of Gdansk was talking.
