Description, photos and a map showing the nearest significant objects. Photo and descriptionIn the village of Kamno there is the Church of St. George the Victorious. The settlement called Kamno is located 8 km from the city of Pskov in the direction of the Riga highway right at the source of the Kamenka River. The village has an oval shape and is surrounded on three sides by rather wide ravines; on the floor side there are defensive embankments and ditches. From the name it is clear that it came from the word "stone", because there are more than 10 -12 thousand years ago the huge Valdai glacier passed. Due to this event, a river was formed, which was named Kamenka, and an ancient settlement was built at its source. At that time, the river was very full-flowing, and ships passed through it. The settlement itself was located between two channels on the peninsula, which had slopes reaching a height of 10 m. The most favorable period for the settlement of Kamno lasted for 8-10 centuries. Before the city of Pskov began to be mentioned in the chronicle sources, Kamno was going through a stormy period of its heyday. There is a legend that the possession of the Grand Duchess Olga was located near the settlement. The settlement of Kamno is especially famous for its military history. Livonian troops invaded the Pskov territory in 1272, after which they plundered a huge number of nearby villages. Pskov prince Timofey Dovmont found out about this and plundered the Livonian army. In 1407, the so-called "Kamensk battle" of the Livonian knights with the Pskov troops was carried out. A beautiful church, erected in honor of St. George the Victorious, rises above Kamena. The temple was built in the 15th century, and limestone stone was taken as a material. There is an assumption that the church was still older. Grand Duke Dovmont, passionately involved in the construction of churches, could build a church in Kamno in honor of St. George. The documents of the 19th century note that the church roof and the head were especially dilapidated. During 1879, the temple was significantly expanded in the interior due to the fact that four columns were removed, and instead of a stone dome, a wooden one was built. The church bell tower is made of stone and was built in 1844; had five bells. The largest bell weighed 52 pounds, and the smallest one weighed about 6 pounds. On the largest bell there was an image of the Great Martyr George and six angels; the middle bell depicted the Mother of God with an inscription about the master who completed the work, all the other bells bore only the names of the masters. In the Church of St. George there were two thrones, the main one of which was consecrated in the name of the Great Martyr St. George the Victorious, and the adjoining one - in honor of the Monk Pskov Wonderworker of the Hermitage Nikandr. The Kazan chapel-burial vault of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was once assigned to the St. George Church. Not far from the church, the graves of the translators and poets Yakhontovs have survived to this day. Judging by the family tradition of the Yakhontov family, Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin himself once visited Kamno. There were six chapels in the parish, two of which were built of stone. Near the stone chapel, at a distance of one verst from the settlement, the Pskov inhabitants met and saw off the famous Pskov-Pechersk icons. The second stone chapel was located in the village of Stanki. Chapels, built of wood, stood in the villages: Podmogilye, Paniky, Podosye and Tyamsha. In documents dating back to 1900, another, fifth chapel is noted, located in the village of Logazovichi. The area around the settlement of Kamno is especially rich in holy springs. Since ancient times, information about the sources of the Prophet, the Twelve Apostles, the Monk Nikandr, Elijah has reached us. Recently, the source of the Holy Great Martyr George the Victorious is famous for miraculous healings. The rector of the church, Father Valentine, conducted the consecration of the key according to the order of the Jordanian font. There is an opinion that spring water helps with various kinds of diseases of the legs, joints, bodily, as well as spiritual diseases. Numerous pilgrims talk about the miraculous healing after bathing in the St. George's Key.
