Photo and description

Thanks to the determination and convictions of several brave men and women, Barbados has emerged as an independent state. In April 1998, Prime Minister Owen Arthur approved the National Heroes Day as a tribute to the country's prominent personalities. A year later, Prime Minister Owen Arthur issued a decree that Bridgetown's Trafalgar Square would be renamed National Heroes Square.

This landmark is located in the city center, at the top of a wide street, just across the street from Government House. A large bronze statue of the famous Admiral Horatio Nelson has been installed on it since 1813 (before a similar monument appeared in London). Since this sculpture is not related to Barbados, then in 1990 it was moved from the center to the edge of the square. The old fountain called "Dolphin" has been standing on the square since 1861, when the water supply system was built in the city. In addition, National Heroes Square is home to Bridgetown's main shopping center.

The National Heroes' Square is a popular venue for festivals, holidays and events significant for the city.
