Troitsko-Pechora Regional Museum of History and Local Lore named after A.N. Popova is a scientific and educational and research institution, which is the main repository of historical monuments, objects of spiritual and material culture of the Pepechorye. The museum was born and developed thanks to the efforts of local lore enthusiasts, namely Alexander Nikolaevich Popov, a teacher of mathematics at the Troitsko-Pechorsk high school.

The opening of the People's Museum took place in October 1957, a separate building was allocated for it, which used to be the home for the clergy of the Trinity Church. The name of A.N. Popov Museum was awarded in 1982 as a tribute to the patriot of his land. In 1982, by decision of the regional executive committee of Troitsko-Pechorsk, a new building was built for the museum on the territory of the former secondary school No. 1 on Sovetskaya Street.

Over the entire period of its existence, the museum has accumulated about 7 thousand exhibits, most of them are presented in the expositions of the museum. The flora and fauna displays the flora and fauna of the region. Here you can see stuffed black woodpecker, gray crane, owl, eagle, ermine and other representatives of the fauna. The exposition dedicated to the founder of the museum displays documents, photographs, awards that belonged to Alexander Nikolaevich Popov.

The archaeological exposition begins with an archaeological map of the area, where 89 sites of primitive people are indicated, here you can see the diorama "Kaninskoye cave sanctuary", fragments of ceramics, bone and flint arrowheads, a mammoth tooth and much more are presented. The ethnographic exposition consists of authentic household items of the local population, of which there are about 600 in the museum. Here you can see various types of wooden and birch bark dishes, Komi clothes, fishing and hunting equipment, a calendar, etc. The museum houses a large geological collection, as well as scientific works and photographic documents of the Pechora-Ilychsky reserve.

The entire history of the region in the museum is divided into themes: "The past and present of the Komi culture and traditions", "The Troitsko-Pechora islet of the GULAG", "Let us bow to those great years!" In the exhibition hall of the museum, temporary expositions have been created: "The Pride of the Troitsko-Pechora Land", "The Ilych River Basin", "The Origins of Talent - the Native Land", "Ural Gems", "Maxim's Descendants", etc. Here are exhibitions of masters of decorative and applied art NI Panfilovich, AN Davydov, VG Kosmin; Larina A.K., artists - Belotserkovsky I.A., Mezentseva E.V., Bulatoshkina V.I., Shvetsova V.G., Samodurova Yu.E., Bazhukova F.D. G.N. Kulaeva, N.I. Podolina, E.N. and others. The museum funds contain valuable materials on the history, economy and nature of this region - old-printed old Russian books of the 17-19 centuries, ethnographic and numismatic collections, originals, as well as copies of all kinds of historical documents.

The local history museum collects material related to such historical events as the Civil War and the bloody rebellion of 1919 in Troitsko-Pechorsk, the destruction of churches, the transfer of repressed citizens.

The Trinity-Pechora Museum contains originals of documents of eminent compatriots, academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences, E.V. Kozlov - People's Artist of Russia, professors of geological sciences: V.A. Chizhova and V.I. Bgatov, Olympic champion in cross-country skiing Bazhukov N.S., writers: G.A. Fedorov and I.I. Pystina, I.E. Kulakov - the former chairman of the State Council of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It has already become a tradition to hold events in the museum in honor of Victory Day, Youth Day, International Museum Day, in memory of the victims of political repression; here meetings are held with veterans and home front workers, artists, masters of arts and crafts, etc.

During the existence of the museum, 50 thousand people have visited it, 12.5 thousand excursions have been conducted.
