Photo and description

The monument "Partisan Glory" is located at 138 km of the Kiev highway near Luga. It was installed in 1975 in memory of the exploits of the partisans of the Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov regions. Near this grandiose monument on Victory Day, numerous meetings of veteran partisans and celebrations in honor of the next anniversary of the Victory over the Nazi army are annually held.

The city of Luga was a major railway junction. Until 1940, more than a dozen large industrial enterprises operated here. On August 24, 1941, Luga was abandoned by Soviet troops. The German fascist invaders created a concentration camp for prisoners of war here and established a brutal occupation regime in Luga. Violence and arbitrariness of German soldiers and officers, bullying and humiliation only strengthened in people hatred of the enemy and a firm resolve to fight him with all his might. From the beginning of the occupation, the Oredezh underground district committee operated with its partisan detachments, which maintained close ties with the Luga underground.

The "Partisan Glory" memorial was designed by the architect V.B. Bukhaev, sculptors V.E. Gorevoy, V.I. Bazhinov, V.I. Neimark, S.A. Kubasov. The main element of the composition of the monument is the road starting next to the reinforced concrete pillbox, which has survived from the war times. The road goes through the field past thirteen granite stelae-boulders, on which are carved inscriptions dedicated to the thirteen partisan brigades that fought in the Leningrad region. At the side of the hill, the road turns into a wide staircase, on both sides of which there are three ledges-bastions, which represent three regions: Leningrad, Novgorod and Pskov. On the ledges are initiations.

The hill is crowned with the monument "Partisan Glory", at its top there is a sculptural composition, which has a height of more than 20 m. On a granite pedestal there is a sculptural image of a partisan girl with a fluttering banner in her hands and a machine gun; it seems to be calling on the people to fight the invaders. Further, the road goes under the heavy concrete slab of the memorial hall. There are three high reliefs on its facade: "Leaving for the partisans", "Oath" and "Fight". Along the inner perimeter of the building are not glazed narrow loopholes, but above them there is a frieze made from photographs of the war years. On the wall opposite from the entrance there is a wide opening, which is closed by a grate.
