Photo and description

Luhur Uluwatu Temple is one of the nine most important temples in Bali, which protect the island from evil spirits. The temple was built in the XI century.

Puru Luhur Uluwatu is located on the top of a steep cliff in the village of Pecatu, in the southwestern part of Bali. A distinctive feature of this ancient temple is its location on a sheer cliff, the height of which reaches 70 meters. In addition, the temple's carved altars made of black stone attract attention.

The entrance to the temple is paid, and you must be properly dressed - in a sarong. A sarong is a strip of cotton fabric that is wrapped around the waist and is issued free of charge upon entry. It should be borne in mind that you can walk freely around the temple, but a visit to the central courtyard is possible only during special ritual ceremonies. It will be interesting to visit the theatrical performance, which takes place in the small amphitheater of the temple - showing the Indonesian dance kecak.

The forest that surrounds the temple is home to a huge number of monkeys, which are looked after by the servants of the temple. Monkeys are allowed to feed, but you should be careful, as monkeys can snatch a bag, camera, sunglasses from their hands. If, nevertheless, it was not possible to protect your property from monkeys, then usually the guides recommend exchanging your thing for some kind of fruit. But in this case, you should be careful, as such an exchange can provoke the monkey to steal your things further.

At the bottom of the cliff there is a picturesque cave and a beach. This beach is very popular with surfers.
