The title in English is Rosengarten. Photo and descriptionThe steep Argauerstalden street leads from the Niedeggbrucke bridge to the observation deck, located at the famous Rose Garden, which has long been chosen by lovers of beautiful pictures. Having lingered on it for a while and admiring the most beautiful view of Bern, you can go further - to the Rose Garden. The site, which is now a public park, where you can find a library, a reading room where you can enjoy books in the open air, a trendy, never empty restaurant "Garden of Roses", from 1765 to 1877 was just as visited as it is now. Only in those days people came here for a completely different reason. Here, on a dais, outside the Old Bern, there was a cemetery. The cemetery was closed for burials, and residents of the city began to come here less and less. Necropolis, surrounded by a wall that has survived to this day, overgrown with grass. The graves were completely invisible behind the centuries-old trees. In 1913, the city authorities made a park on the site of the old cemetery. Here winding paths were laid, a playground was created. In 1917, several rose bushes were planted here for the first time. Now those flower beds have become part of the luxurious Rose Garden, where, in addition to the queen of flowers, irises and rhododendrons also grow. All this splendor blooms in May. Flowers delight with their colors until October. The Rose Garden is improved every year, planting more and more new types of flowers. In 1918, a pond was arranged in the park, decorated with sculptural images of Europe and Neptune. The author of these statues was the artist Karl Hanni. In 1937, another monument appeared in the garden, created by the sculptor Arnold Huggler. It is dedicated to the writer Jeremiah Gotthelf.
