Photo and descriptionMuseum of the History of Warsaw - Museum of the history of the city, located in eleven buildings in the Old Town of Warsaw. The exposition of the museum tells about the history of Warsaw from the moment of its foundation to the present day. Originally established as the Old Museum of Warsaw in 1936, the museum was a branch of the National Museum of Warsaw. It was housed in three houses of the Old Town, acquired for this purpose by the city council. The outbreak of World War II interrupted the formation of the museum's collection. In 1941, the curator of the museum was arrested and died almost immediately in Auschwitz. The museum with the collection was destroyed during the Warsaw Uprising. After the war, by decision of the Municipal Council, the museum was opened under its current name in eleven buildings of the Old Town. In 1955, museum visitors were able to see a permanent exhibition telling about the history of the capital. It was the first such large-scale exhibition dedicated to the history of one city. In January 1965, the next exhibition, entitled The Seven Ages of Warsaw, opened. In the following years, some of its parts were modernized. The collection was gradually increased through purchases at auctions, donations and donations. The museum currently contains over 250,000 objects. Here you can see objects of painting, graphics, sculpture, arts and crafts, coins, archaeological finds, architectural drawings. The Museum organizes lessons and competitions for students, participates in all significant cultural events in Warsaw. This was the first such large-scale exhibition dedicated to the history of one city. In January 1965, the next exhibition, entitled The Seven Ages of Warsaw, opened.
