Po-i-Kalyan complex description and photos - Uzbekistan: Bukhara. Detailed information about the attraction. Description, photographs and a map showing the nearest significant objects. The name in English is Po-i-Kalyan. Photo and descriptionThere are several interesting historical monuments on Registan Square, one of which is the Poi Kalyan architectural complex, which consists of a minaret and a Kalyan mosque and a madrasah called Miri Arab. The mosque and the minaret with it appeared during the redevelopment of Bukhara, initiated by Arslan Khan in the XII century. The temple was erected not far from the citadel. There is historical evidence, according to which we learn that the minaret was very beautiful, but, unfortunately, improperly designed, so it collapsed right on the mosque immediately after the completion of the construction of this complex. Both the mosque and the minaret had to be rebuilt. The Kalyan minaret, dated 1127, is considered one of the most ancient buildings in Bukhara. It's amazing but in its entire history it has never been reconstructed. It rises 46.5 meters above the surrounding buildings. The Kalyan Mosque was built a little earlier - in 1121, but in the 15th century it was replaced with a new building. In 1514, all the work on its decoration was completed, about which conscientious craftsmen made a commemorative inscription right on the facade.
