The Art Museum of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation contains the richest collection of art works of ancient and modern art. The museum was founded according to the last will of Galust Gulbenkian, a well-known businessman and no less famous art collector, who wanted his collection to become the basis of this museum. He has been an avid collector since childhood, and his collection is considered one of the most valuable art collections in the world. The museum is located in a picturesque park complex, which belongs to the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, at the intersection of Avenue de Bern and Avenue Antonio Augusto de Aguiar.

The permanent collection of the museum is divided into two parts and presented in chronological and geographical order. In the first part of the museum, you can see works of oriental and classical art. Among the expositions of the first part of the museum are objects of art from Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece and Rome, as well as from Mesopotamia, one of the most important centers of world civilization and ancient urban culture. Also on display are ceramics and textiles from Persia dating back to the Islamic period and Turkey. The second part of the museum is dedicated to European art from the 11th century to the mid-20th century. In this part you can see books and medieval manuscripts with color illustrations, ivory figures and sculptures, paintings and decorative art. The works of renowned French jeweler Rene Lalique are of particular value, and his works are exhibited in a separate room. Visitors can see the works of famous artists from different eras, such as Rubens, Rembrandt, Monet and many others. The entire collection of the museum has approximately 6,000 exhibits.
