The building of the former Royal Chancellery of Granada is located on Plaza Nueva - New Square, which is located near the city center on one side and Carrera del Darro on the other. This square is one of the main squares in the city.In addition to the Royal Chancellery, there are several other main city buildings, for example, the Pisa House. In ancient times, all kinds of tournaments and competitions, as well as bullfights, were held on this square.

The Royal Chancellery has been the seat of the Supreme Court since 1587. Throughout the 16th century, this body gains more and more influence and powers. Currently, this building houses the Palace of Justice.

Royal Chancellery Building, The construction of which was begun in 1531 by order of the King of Spain Carlos I, was the first building in Spain, built on purpose to house the judicial authority. The austere yet elegant facade of the building, created in the Renaissance style, perfectly matches its purpose and use as a House of Justice. The Royal Chancery was designed by the famous architect Francisco del Castillo Porter. The work was also attended by the masons Martin Diaz de Navarrete and Pedro Marin, the author of the sculptures was Alonso Hernandez, the beautiful courtyard was created by the outstanding architect Siloam Diego. The facade of the building is decorated with an arched entrance, marble Doric columns, an upper balustrade and stone cornices, decorated with carved leaves made of stone.
