Photo and descriptionMonte Conero Park is located on the slopes and in the vicinity of the mountain of the same name, at the foot of which, in turn, is located Ancona, the capital of the Italian region of Marche. This is a real paradise for lovers of outdoor recreation and communication with nature. There are over 18 hiking and cycling trails in the park, which lies south of the city, which go through the real thickets of the forest and from which a wonderful view of the Adriatic Sea opens. You can walk through the park, the total area of which is 5800 square meters, either accompanied by an experienced guide who will introduce you to the local flora and fauna, or on your own. Moreover - you can even create your own route here! While walking around Monte Conero, you can see many species of birds, most of which are migratory, such as the peregrine falcon. There are also predatory nocturnal birds, and among the animals - badgers, martens, ermines and reptiles. Also on the territory of the park, created in 1987, there are several historical and cultural attractions that you can literally stumble upon. For example, unique caves and white limestone cliffs, the likes of which you will not find anywhere else on the Adriatic coast from Trieste to Gargano. And at the top of the mountain are the ruins of a Paleolithic settlement - it is over 100 thousand years old! It is worth noting the churches of Santa Maria in Portonovo and San Pietro in Conero. A must-see in the park is tasting local dishes and wines. Mount Monte Conero itself, about 572 meters high, got its name from one of the most ancient products, which the ancient Greeks called "komaros", and the Italians - "corbezzolo" - this is "sea cherry", a common Mediterranean shrub with round fruits similar on cherries. Its fruits are very sweet, and the insides, depending on the degree of ripeness, are yellow and bright red. These berries are harvested in the fall and eaten fresh or frozen.
